Vienna was the perfect location for a stop on our way to Prague from Budapest by train, and it is also a city than can be enjoyed in a day. That being said I still recommend staying for 2-3 days in order to experience everything Vienna has to offer. However since we were on a time constraint, the single day allowed us to appreciate the buildings and architecture, and created a desire to Vienna again with more time. So here is a day in Vienna!

First head over to the Shönbrunn Palace, which is Austria’s most visited attraction. Built in the Baroque style, this building is a stunning work of architecture that has many activities throughout the 1,441 rooms and the surrounding gardens. The Palace is open to the public for a small fee, so Anya and I took the audio tour before heading into the gardens. The palace park is in my opinion the main attraction of the Palace as there is a maze, fountains, games, statues, horses, and even an orangery!
This was an amazing Palace, which I hope to be able to visit again in the future, however, since we only had a day to experience as much as we could in Vienna; we sadly had to move on.
We then headed to the Vienna State Opera House which is one of the world’s leading opera houses is a must visit for any trip to Vienna. With an impressive schedule of operas, ballets, orchestras and the famous Vienna Opera Ball, this building is an interesting place to tour. As with many buildings in Europe, the Opera House was built in an architectural style that allows visitors to marvel at the art history. Although we did not have enough time in the day to watch on of the opera, I highly recommend doing so on your visit.
Once we had exited the Opera House tour, we noticed a tall spire in the distance and so we decided that our next stop would be to attempt to find the building attached to the spire. This turned out to be the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, where you can climb the spire take in a 360° view of Vienna. The architectural detail noticeable on the Cathedral is its multi-colored tile roof which is very impressive.

With the day coming to a close and having trekked all over Vienna, we decided it was time to find a place where we could relax in this amazing city. We headed over to The Belvedere to finish off the day in Vienna where we were able to relax in the gardens. The Belvedere is an amazing Baroque Palace that is composed of two separate buildings and some beautiful gardens. Although we were unable to enter the palace since it was quite late in the afternoon, I recommend heading inside to see the famous painting, The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. This Palace is not as busy as the Shönbrunn Palace which makes it the perfect place for some quiet time in a beautiful European city.
These are just a few places to visit while on a trip to Vienna, however, if you have more time I would also recommend checking out some other amazing attractions such as:
· The Spanish Riding School – an amazing place to watch horseback riding!
· Hundertwasserhaus House – An apartment building that is an architectural building.
· Danube Tower – An Iconic tower with an observation tower.
· Wien Museum Mozart Apartment – the 1700s apartment where Mozart lived.
Vienna is an amazing city to visit for a single day or for a week, so take the time to experience it all! Definitely check it out on your next visit in Europe!!
